Which characteristics of the Open Science movement can be improved or expanded on in order to make it the perfect partner for the Citizen Science movement and an ally for common cause? Citizen Science and Open Science share some core aspects: both are practices of sharing knowledge freely and foster openness and transparency. Citizen science is frequently mentioned in the Open Science movement as an opportunity for increased societal engagement and knowledge sharing, but a topic that is discussed less often is what Citizen Science requires from the Open Science movement.
In this interactive dialogue session at the ECSA, European Citizen Science Association Conference 2018 in Geneva, we invite citizen science practitioners, project coordinators, and all other interested parties to discuss and debate what Open Science can offer for Citizen Science. The results of this session will feed into European training and public engagement initiatives currently being developed by the ORION Open Science project.
