On the occasion of the International Women's Day on 8 March, a Diversithon will take place at the Berlin Institute of Health on 7 March 2019. The Diversithon is a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon with the aim to increase the visibility of women scientists and other groups underrepresented in the life sciences. Join the event and meet Luiza Bengtsson and Emma Harris from the ORION Podcast.

Only 17.7% of the English and 15.6% of the German biographies in Wikipedia are about women. People of colour and scientists* of other ethnic groups are also underrepresented. At the Wikipedia Edit-a-thon you can help changing this imbalance. An edit-a-thon is an organized event where participants improve a specific topic or type of content on Wikipedia.

The workshop starts at 2 pm with an inspiring talk by Jess Wade (physicist and one of the "Ten People who Mattered" 2018 of Nature). Alice White (Wikimedian at the Wellcome Library) will then give an introduction to the Wikipedia world and participants will have the opportunity to create and edit Wikipedia entries themselves. Luiza Bengtsson and Emma Harris from the ORION Podcast will be broadcasting from the event.

The Diversithon is jointly organised by: Berlin Institute of Health (BIH), Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) and the Leibniz Research Institute for Molecular Pharmacology (FMP).

The event is open for everyone and will be held in English, but participants can also write their articles in German.

For more information please see the event page on Wikipedia.
