MDC is one of the world’s leading research institutes in life sciences and member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres, Germany’s largest scientific organisation. MDC has been ranked 14 on the Thompson Reuters list of the world’s 20 best research institutes for molecular biology and genetics, based on its publication record. The work of MDC’s 65 research groups focuses on three classes of disease that have an enormous impact on society, namely cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, cancer, and disorders of the nervous system. In addition to these three disease-oriented fields of research, medical systems biology is an essential strategic and overarching component of MDC’s scientific profile.
