The InSPIRES EU project organized a webinar on “Open science: the dimension of stakeholder engagement ” on Thursday 14 May. Michela Bertero, Head of International and Scientific Affairs at the Centre for Genomic Regulation in Barcelona, EU-LIFE representative in the European Open Science Policy Platform and coordinator of ORION Open Science was the key note speaker and she gave a brief historical background to Open Science, an overview of the current policies, activities and future steps.
The webinar provided a brief historical perspective on Open Science, followed by a look on the current Open Science policies and actions today in Europe as the European Open Science Policy Platform, and future steps. Michela reflected also on the dimension of stakeholder engagement in Open Science. The webinar concluded with a presentation of the ORION Open Science project, in which there is a combination of Open Science and Responsible Research and Innovation concepts.

The ORION Open Science project aims to promote engagement of multiple stakeholders in fundamental life sciences research, by trying out multiple co-creation activities and experimenting different methods and contexts. The ultimate goal is to trigger cultural and institutional changes among the research community.
InSPIRES brings together Civil Society, practitioners and other stakeholders from across and beyond Europe to co-design, jointly pilot, implement and roll out innovative models for Science Shops. The InSPIRES models integrate Responsible Research and Innovation, Open Science and Impact Evaluation as part of their DNA in order to open the research process up in a more strategic way. The inputs from systematic impact evaluation studies will be continuously integrated in order to make InSPIRES Science Shops 2.0 models more accurate and responsive to civil society needs and concerns.
