The aim with ORION is to explore ways in which research and funding organisations in life sciences and biomedicine can open up the way they fund, organise, and practice research. At the core of the ORION project is co-creation, which involves collaborating with different groups of people (public, policy, industry) to come up with new ideas to support and increase the impact of scientific research. Co-creation experiments and experiences are at the heart of the ORION project, bringing together multiple stakeholders from academia, industry, policy and citizens at all points of the research lifecycle. As an initial step the Babraham Institute ORION team looked for inspiration for their co-creation experiments from previous engagement tools and methods that have been used to bring together different actors from society.

ORION, a new Horizon 2020 project, got off to a flying start at the first meeting of the project team in May. Thirty-two representatives from nine partner organisations, the project Advisory Board, and the EC Project Officer spent two productive and collaborative days at the headquarters of the project co-ordinator, the Centre for Genomic Regulation, in Barcelona.
