The ORION MELTIC project coordinated by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, brings together two disciplines; health as well as information and communication technologies (ICT). The project aims to improve the quality of life of European citizens in small communities by co-creating and developing ICT health services with stakeholders including local residents. The ORION project is launching a funding call for novel co-creation initiatives to open up research in life sciences and biomedicine. This call will provide funding of up to 100,000€ for a project that brings together a variety of different participants from across a range of sectors to co-create a new project or product based around life sciences research.

As part of the GEPES (Genome Editing Public Engagement Synergy) programme the National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE) in UK is convening an online international symposium focusing on public engagement with genome editing on 21st November. Emma Martinez, project officer for open experiments and co-creation in the ORION project is one of the speakers.

These questions were asked in our public survey "Public attitudes to life sciences research in six European countries" and in the German and Swedish Science Barometers. The results from these studies will be presented at the 11th Forum Wissenschaftskommunikation 2018 on 8 October in Bonn.

Genome editing tools such as CRISPR are beginning to reshape the physical world around us, one base pair at a time. As an Artist in Residence in labs at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) and at STATE Studio Emilia Tikka explored how this could affect society in the future. The results will be showcased at an event in Berlin on November 1st.
