New and Revised Approaches to Research Funding (ORION subtask 3.2.1) sought to integrate RRI principles in funding processes, co-creating funding calls with multiple stakeholders, thus ‘opening- up’ research funding. Research funding organisations that participated in this ORION task, the Instituto de Salud Carlos III in Spain and the South Moravian Centre for International Mobility (JCMM) in Czech Republic, organised and led workshops with multiple stakeholders. Their co-creation experiments resulted in two complementary approaches: The RRI Health Awards (ISCIII) and a funding call for undergraduate research projects to address local societal challenges (JCMM).

Since the beginning of the project, WP4 has been building online and offline trainings in Open Science and RRI. This process has included a gap analysis of existing training in European Life Science institutes, pilot workshops for funders and researchers, and finally optimised workshops which offer a flexible yet consistent...

The advantage of online learning is that it is flexible for the participants and permanently available for use and adaptation for future learners. WP4 has worked to create a range of Open Educational Resources (OER) and make them available on various platforms. OER are available to be used and shared by everyone. These include: a 6-module MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), webinars, infographics, podcasts, and factsheets. These have been produced in collaboration with internal ORION partners and a variety of external experts from across European and international institutions and projects. These resources have and continue to be shared and hosted by platforms, e.g. the podcasts are on RRI T ools.

The ORION ‘Train-the-Trainer’ course was developed to help Open Science advocates and stakeholders learn from the training that has been delivered throughout the project and equip them with the skills to run their own training. The course ran from October 19th 2020 to November 4th 2020. 65 applications were received from all over the world and these were then assessed to award the 21 available places. It featured two webinars, two modules of an online module course (hosted on OpenLearnCreate from Open University under the following link), and it culminated in the participants delivering a 20 minute talk or micro-training at a live-streamed online event for Berlin Science Week called the Open Science Cafe. All the participants that finished the course got an ORION Open Science Train-the-Trainer certificate.

The Final Evaluation and Quality Report of the ORION Open Science project gives an overview of all the project activities and learnings. The report is organized in three parts: A general introduction to the project, presenting ORION strategies and actions as well as overall statistics on the participating experts and citizens. The Evaluation report, presenting the main results arisen from the efforts devoted to the Work Package 5 focused on evaluating ORION training actions in Open Science and multiple co-creation experiments. The Quality report, showing the strategies, channels and results promoted by the ORION Management team to ensure the successful implementation of the project. Through the document, links are provided to the ORION website where the public deliverables are accessible for the reader to find out further details on the evaluations that were carried out.

The ORION website is one of the main dissemination channels for the project and its activities. Also each participating RFPO created a dedicated webpage to Open Science and RRI on their institutional websites.

The outreach and dissemination Work Package, WP6, was led by VA (Public & Science) and set the framework for project communication through the Dissemination and Communication Plan, by giving communication support to the other WPs, by communicating and disseminating project information through different channels and by promoting the project objectives and activities to relevant stakeholders including policy makers. A variety of communication channels, such as: website, newsletter, social media and podcasts, have been used to achieve the objectives. This midterm communication report covers communication and dissemination activities and the WP6 tasks conducted from the start of the project on May 1, 2017 until 31 March 2019.
